New Orleans, 1815
New Orleans, 1815 is a duet for snare drum with kick drum and marching tenor drums heavily influenced by both the French and American rudimental styles, specifically Joseph Tompkins’ Nine French-American Rudimental Solos. The specific aim of this duet is to bridge the gap between concert and marching percussion, and fill the void that has been left of the marching tenor drums in the concert style. The two parts are mirrored throughout most of the duet, where the snare part was composed through first in the French-American style, and then the “arounds” were composed for the tenor drums, making sure the integrity of the style, rhythms, and feel remained intact in the tenor part.
Though this piece is written as a duet, it is both optional and welcome to be performed as a solo work either by the snare drum or tenor drum and with or without kick
